The station was used for the processing of Uridium ore by Bajoran laborers. It was later renamed Deep Space 9, but its original name was used during its brief time under the Dominion during 2373-2374.

In the early 2360s, the Ferengi, Quark opened Quark's Bar, Grill, Gaming House and Holosuite Arcade on the station's Promenade.
In 2366, the station was infected by a variation of the deadly Double Helix virus. Station prefect, Gul Skrain Dukat, allowed a small Federation medical team access to the station to work on a cure. (TNG novel: Double Helix: Vectors)
In 2368, former agent of the Obsidian Order Elim Garak was exiled to the station and given the menial job of a humble tailor. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time)
In 2369, the Cardassians withdrew from the Bajor sector and the new Bajoran Provisional Government invited Starfleet to administate the station. They renamed the station Deep Space 9.
- More of the station's history will be revealed in the Terok Nor miniseries edited by Marco Palmieri.
