The Enterprise NX-01 in the 2150s

The crew of Enterprise in the 2150s

Star Trek: Enterprise (originally entitled Enterprise during its first two seasons) was the fifth live-action incarnation of Star Trek. It ran from 26 September 2001 to 13 May 2005, spanning four seasons before it was cancelled due to low ratings. The series was co-created by producers Rick Berman and Brannon Braga.

Aside from the Ninety-eight episodes Enterprise has so far spawned just a handful of books and is the only series not to be depicted in any comics (so far). It does serve as the earliest time period for the computer game Star Trek: Legacy.

The show followed the adventures of Captain Jonathan Archer, commanding officer of the Enterprise (NX-01), United Earth Starfleet's bold first Warp-5 ship. The series showed what were "the events leading up to the founding of the Federation (although there is much criticism surrounding the final episode as it depicts Archer getting ready to go and give a speech and sign the constitution to the Federation but cuts off just before he gives the speech). Like TOS before it, Enterprise was focused primary on a trio of main characters; Archer, 'Trip' and T'Pol though this led to some characters being severely underused. After the first two seasons were criticised having too many stand alone episodes the third sason made a dramatic change with a season long arc revolving around the Xindi and the Delphic Expanse. Season 4 changed again favouring a handful of two and three part stories with frequent use of established races and themes and numerous references to other series, this approach received much praise from many fans but ultimately wasn’t enough to save the show from cancellation.
