India underwent much strife through the 1960s - 1980s, with the deaths of Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, as well as the secret establishment and later destruction of the facility called Chrysalis and the explosion at Bhopal (TOS novels: The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 1, The Rise and Fall of Khan Noonien Singh, Volume 2).

In the mid-21st Century, India, along with its traditional rival, Pakistan, was a member of the Eastern Coalition. (TLE novel: The Sundered)
