The Elasi are a humanoid species native to the planet Menalgavor, located in Elasi Prime star system.

The Elasi are essentially a race of pirates, which consist of three main clans, the ajElasi, the ajThuri and the onRusili. Prior to 2269 these clans tended to fight one another, but in 2269 they banded together and began attacking Federation shipping. They were soon named a high level threat to the Federation.

In 2268, a group of Elasi led by Cereth ajElasi hijacked the Ptolemy-class tug, USS Masada in the Beta Myamid system. The USS Enterprise was sent to investigate the disappearance of the Masada, and succeed in retaking the vessel from the Elasi.

A short while later a group of Elasi tried to forcefully acquire a stash of alien weapons found by Harcourt Fenton Mudd, however they were driven off by the Enterprise.

Later, the Elasi pirates helped Ies Bredell is his plot to begin a war with the United Federation of Planets. The centerpiece of this plan was the launching of a duplicate USS Enterprise. The original Enteprise later engaged the duplicate vessel and two Elasi vessels, which ended with the destruction of both the duplicate and the Elasi ships. Ies Bredell was beleived to have died in the destruction of the duplicate Enterprise. (TOS video game: Star Trek: 25th Anniversary)

In 2269, it was revealed that Ies Bredell was still alive - he had been beamed to safety by a cloaked Elasi frigate which was observing the battle between his forces and the Enterprise right before the destruction of his ship. The Elasi helped Bredell in a failed plot to develop a weapon capable of destroying Earth and the Federation.(TOS video game: Star Trek: Judgment Rites)
