Diego Reyes was a human Starfleet officer in the 23rd century. He was born circa 2215 in New Berlin, Luna. He graduated from Starfleet Academy circa 2235. As of 2265, he'd reached the rank of commodore, and was commanding officer of Starbase 47.

Prior to commanding Starbase 47, Diego had served on the Drexler class frigate USS Helios under Captain Matuzas, the USS Belleau Wood, and commanded the USS Dauntless.

Professionally, his command style was considered smooth and decisive. Though friendly toward his crew, he had few truly close relationships, stemming in part from a bitter divorce from his ex-wife, Jeanne - a telepath, and kept his strongest emotions largely hidden.

He was placed in charge of the Vanguard station with the assignment to solve the mystery of the meta-genome discovered in the Taurus Reach, while keeping the existence of the meta-genome a secret from the general public and foreign powers.

Reyes was unable to return to Earth in time for his mother's death due to the remoteness of Starbase 47.

Reyes was romantically involved with Starfleet JAG officer Captain Rana Desai. Reyes took it upon himself to inform Desai as to what Starfleet knew of the meta-genome in order to help them both perform their jobs better.
