Biotechnology is technology that incorporates living organisms or biological systems into its functioning.

Species that make heavy use of biotechnology include the Azziz, the Breen, the Kropaslin, Species 8472, and the Xindi. The United Federation of Planets has begun making use of biotechnology with the integration of bioneural gel packs into its starships. ^{[citation needed]}
