[edit] Location
- According to the map coordinates provided in The Federation FASA supplement, and adjusting the map orientation, Altair VI is located in the Alpha Quadrant.
[edit] History
Prior to human colonization, Altair VI was home to a mysterious ancient civilization. Based on the ruins, some Federation historians believe this civilization belonged to the Preservers while others believe it belonged to the Vegan Tyranny.
From the Federation Starfleet's inception in 2161 right up to the present day, three ships have been sent every two years to attend a ceremony held on the planet.
[edit] Politics
By the 23rd century, Altair VI was regarded as an excellent shore leave location and was an important planet within the Federation.
Altair VI's colony world of Altair IV declared independence in 2267, which sparked a brief conflict ended by Federation peacekeeping forces. When a new president was inaugrated, Starfleet placed the greatest emphasis on showing support by assigning three Constitution-class starships to observe the proceedings. In 2285, the government on Altair VI continued to govern both worlds pending a resolution from the Federation Diplomatic Corps.
- It's likely some type of resolution was attained by the 24th century.
As part of the Kobayashi Maru scenario at Starfleet Academy, it was claimed that the spacecraft Kobayashi Maru had just left Altair VI when they crossed over into the Klingon Neutral Zone.
[edit] Geography
The waters of Altair VI are rich in natural minerals that are renowned for their medicinal properties.
